LEARN WISDOM’S BENEFITS

MARCH 9, 2014

SECURITY AND PROTECTION (PROVERBS 1:33, 2:7-8, 20-22)

33 "But he who listens to me shall live securely, And shall be at ease from the dread of evil."
*****
7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity,
8 Guarding the paths of justice, And He preserves the way of His godly ones.
*****
20 So you will walk in the way of good men, And keep to the paths of the righteous.
21 For the upright will live in the land, And the blameless will remain in it;
22 But the wicked will be cut off from the land, And the treacherous will be uprooted from it.     NASB

DISCERNMENT AND GUIDANCE (PROVERBS 2:5-6, 9-12, 3:5-6)
5 Then you will discern the fear of the LORD, And discover the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
*****
9 Then you will discern righteousness and justice And equity and every good course.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart, And knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
11 Discretion will guard you, Understanding will watch over you,
12 To deliver you from the way of evil, From the man who speaks perverse things;
*****
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.
NASB

WHOLENESS (PROVERBS 3:1-2, 7-8)
1 My son, do not forget my teaching, But let your heart keep my commandments;
2 For length of days and years of life, And peace they will add to you.
*****
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil.
8 It will be healing to your body, And refreshment to your bones.
NASB

RIGHT RELATIONSHIPS (PROVERBS 3:3-4)
3 Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 So you will find favor and good repute In the sight of God and man.     NASB

God:
·        Stores up wisdom for the upright,
·        Is a shield
Whoever:
·        Is Evil and treacherous
Will:
·        Be cut off from the land and uprooted from it.

Psalms 37:20
20 But the wicked will perish; And the enemies of the LORD will be like the glory of the pastures, They vanish — like smoke they vanish away.     NASB

Whoever:
·        Listens,

Psalms 81:13  "Oh that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways!    NASB

Isaiah 48:18  "If only you had paid attention to My commandments! Then your well-being would have been like a river, And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.     NASB

Matthew 17:5  While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!"     NASB

·        Does not lean on their own understanding,

1Corinthians 1:19
For it is written, "I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE." 20  Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21  For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.      NASB

·        Does not be wise in their own eyes,

1 Corinthians 3:18-19a
18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become foolish that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God.     NASB

James 3:15-17
15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.     NASB

·        Fears The Lord,

Job 28:28
28 "And to man He said, 'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom;
And to depart from evil is understanding.'"     NASB

·        Trusts in The Lord with all their heart,

Psalms 37:3-6
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.
6 And He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your judgment as the noonday.     NASB

Jeremiah 17:7-8
7 "Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD And whose trust is the LORD.
8 "For he will be like a tree planted by the water, That extends its roots by a stream And will not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought Nor cease to yield fruit.     NASB

·        Acknowledges Him in all their ways,

1 Corinthians 10:30-31
 31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.     NASB

·        Turns away from evil,
·        Walks upright in integrity,

Psalms 37:23-24
23  The steps of a man are established by the LORD, And He delights in his way. 24  When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, Because the LORD is the One who holds his hand.      NASB

·        Be being blameless,
·        Does not forget His teaching,

6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.     NASB

being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.     NASB

Will benefit:
·        Have God as their shield,

Psalms 144:1-2
Blessed be the LORD, my rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle;
2 My lovingkindness and my fortress, My stronghold and my deliverer; My shield and He in whom I take refuge; Who subdues my people under me.     NASB

·        Wisdom will enter their heart,

1 Corinthians 2:6-8
6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away; 7 but we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom, which God predestined before the ages to our glory; 8 the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory;     NASB

·        Will live securely,

·        You will gain length of days and years of life with peace,
